По типу рабочего механизма все наручные часы разделяются на механические и кварцевые. Каждый из видов имеет свои особенности и условия применения, отличаются принципами работы и устройством механизма.

Особенности механических часов
Механические часы были придуманы еще в 17 веке. Принцип их работы остался тем же, но были значительно усовершенствованы показатели точности, прочностные и функциональные качества.
Принцип работы
В основе механизма ходовая пружина. При заводе она сильно закручивается, а раскручиваясь приводит в движение стрелки через систему шестеренок и балансировочное кольцо. Скорость и точность хода зависит от баланса, насколько хорошо внутренние элементы защищены от любых внешних факторов. Именно поэтому ведущие бренды стараются добавить в корпус наручных часов специальные узлы для защиты от действия гравитации, магнитного поля, удара, влажности.
В элитных моделях присутствуют все эти приспособления. В остальном стоимость зависит от материалов изготовления, бренда, разрекламированности линейки и т. п.
Плюсы
Наручные механические часы представлены в огромном ассортименте. Типовые модели стоят несколько тысяч рублей, также есть уникальные, специфические линейки, разработанные для определенных профессий — для авиаторов, дайверов, путешественников. Так, часы для дайвинга способны работать на большой глубине, некоторые модификации могут выдерживать глубоководное давление и даже автоматически проходит декомпрессию. Часы для экстремалов останутся в рабочем состоянии даже при очень низких и высоких температурах, в разряженном воздухе, под дождем, во время снегопада.
Еще один плюс — ремонтопригодность, да, частых мастерских сегодня немного, но они существуют, и хороший мастер способен восстановить практически любой механизм с нуля. А вот «начинку» кварцевых чаще всего можно воспроизвести только в заводских условиях.
Механические наручные часы считаются классикой, их до сих пор предпочитают сильные и успешные люди, да и сам механизм с тиканьем завораживает, заставляет почувствовать некую связь со временем.
Минусы
Одно из самых главных неудобств пружинного механизма — это необходимость его постоянного завода. Недорогие модели имеют завод с запасом 24–48 часов, специализированные модели до 60, 90 и более. Но можно воспринимать завод, как ежедневный ритуал, ввести ее в состояние привычки и тогда это занятие не будет надоедать.
Правда, сегодня, эта проблема практически решена. Функция автоподзавода избавляет владельца от рутинной задачи, правда, срабатывает при регулярном ношении. Внутри корпуса предусмотрен массивный груз, который вращается благодаря движению руки владельца и натягивает пружину.
На точность показаний могут влиять самые разные факторы — магнитное излучение, гравитация, влажность. Если корпус недостаточно герметичен внутри может попадать вода, что провоцирует появление ржавчины внутри. При сильном ударе, падении внутренние элементы могут повредиться.
Раз в 3–5 лет механическим часам нужно профессиональное обслуживание у мастера. Механизм разбирают, чистят, при необходимости меняют некоторые элементы. Все это также влечет за собой дополнительные расходы.
Особенности кварцевых часов
Второй вид наручных часов — с кварцевым механизмом. Эту технологию разработала компания Seiko в 1969 году. Этот вид существенно отличается от механических, здесь в качестве «движущей» силы используется электрический ток. Устройства работают от миниатюрных батареек.
Среди самых известных брендов Casio и Orient.
Принцип работы
Механические часы на момент изображения кварцевых имели одну существенную проблему — низкую точность. Поэтому в качестве альтернативы были придуман новый механизм, где классическая баланс-спираль была заменена на электрический колебательный центр. Фактически это хронометр с действием работы кварцевого кристалла, через который проходят электрический ток с определенной частотой.
В зависимости от модели кварцевые часы могут показывать только стрелочные время или электронное табло, или же два этих формата одновременно.
Плюсы
Главный и в то же время самый существенный плюс кварцевых часов — хорошая точность. Причем, показатели не зависят от внешних факторов, например, вибрации, влажности или магнитного поля. Некоторые модели могут ходить секунду в секунду несколько месяцев.
Кварцевые часы могут быть оснащены большим набором дополнительных функций. Здесь может быть установлен таймер, счетчик пульса, секундомер и даже модуль GPS. Это делает их особенно популярными среди спортсменов, тех, кто ведет активный образ жизни.
Здесь отсутствуют подвижные части, а, значит, меньше вероятности, что какой-то узел выйдет из строя при неаккуратном движении.
Минусы
Из-за сложности механизма кварцевые часы практически не поддаются ремонту. Да, сломать из сложнее, чем механические, но при этом и вернуть в «строй» будет сложнее и обычно такие затраты не оправданы.
Кроме того, работа устройства, зависит от батарейки, обычно она выходит из строя неожиданно, что может привести к определенным трудностям.
Какие часы выбрать?
Здесь все индивидуально. Механические часы традиционно выбирают люди, которым важно создать о себе положительное впечатление. Дорогие, массивные модели популярны среди мужчин с высоким статусом, их выбирают бизнесмены, известные спортсмены, актеры, представители престижных профессий. Но это что касается элитных брендов.
Но даже недорогие модели производят должное впечатление. Особенности модели с прозрачной крышкой, где можно наблюдать «скелетированную» начинку механизма.
Если самый важный критерий — точность измерения времени, то лучше выбрать кварцевые. Механические обычно отстают за сутки на 20 секунд, а если есть сопутствующие неблагоприятные факторы, то больше. С кварцевым кристаллом такого не случится.
